I recently created an intro video for Texas Tech Baseball via Sportsmation Productions. The client had a specific song in mind that they wanted to use and 90+ minutes of footage. After editing out the audio track, the final video was shaved down to 1:17.

Check the low-res web version below, and don’t forget to visit Sportsmation.com for other projects the company has worked on recently. Hope to have the new site up for that soon. Again, lots going on here right now. :)

It’s been a while since I’ve had time to blog. I had been trying to post an update at least once a month, but the past couple of weeks have been extremely busy. Sportsmation Productions has been doing a lot of projects with multiple clients. I’ll probably post all the latest news in a couple different posts to break everything up (if time allows).

To kick things off, here are some UT baseball and softball wallpaper themes that Sportsmation designed for TexasSports.com. I chose three players from each sport and may add more as the season goes along… again, time permitting. :)

To download any of these wallpapers for your desktop, click on one of the samples or visit TexasSports.com.

Here’s a new demo I put together that features some new (and old) projects along with test stuff that the company has worked on for clients. In addition to projects that the company is working on currently, I’m trying to find time to wrap up a new website I’ve designed for Sportsmation. Look for that to go up soon.

Happy Holidays everyone! It continues to be a busy season for me and Sportsmation Productions. We’re still working with Texas Tech/Red Raider Sports Properties on LED basketball sponsor fascia. In addition, I’m proud to announce that the company is working on a package with Tech’s baseball program for the 2011 season. Very exciting stuff on the way for Dan Law Field’s video board.

My personal site has undergone a slight transformation in the way of a new Tron Legacy theme. I am a HUGE fan of the original 1982 film, which I think also played a big role in launching my creative aspirations. I was about five when I really got into the film, which was also the same time I really started drawing, using the paint programs on our Apple IIGS, among other computing activities. As weird (and yes, as nerdy) as it sounds, that one movie made a pretty big and lasting impression on my life. My mom says we could have bought the movie multiple times over with as much as we rented it from the local mom and pop video store.

I’ve seen Tron Legacy twice so far and it’s amazing. See it at the IMAX if you can. The film looks great, really works in well with the original’s storyline and sounds incredible with Daft Punk behind all the music (and making a cameo in the film).

In recent weeks, I’ve been working on a new jQuery-based design and layout for ScottPaull.com and a new site for Sportsmation.com. This of course takes a back seat to projects that are in the works with clients, but hope to have both finished soon.

In the meantime, enjoy the new Tron theme of the site and check out some recent projects that have been added to the mix. Don’t forget to scroll to the right to see more projects on the grid.

Sportsmation Productions celebrated its first birthday this week. The little company that started last year with one client has grown by leaps and bounds through the power of referrals. I’ve really been amazed at the response that we’ve received from clients and their continued support by passing the word on to others.

Recently, Sportsmation has been producing LED animation and signage projects for Texas Tech Athletics, Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, Red Raider Sports Properties, Platinum Bank, Americot, AimBank, Vista Bank, Chicken Express, Covenant Health System and SportClips. Everyone I’ve dealt with on projects has been fantastic and provided great feedback on what the company has produced.

Sportsmation’s newest client, Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW), was also referred by a current client so a big thanks to Nathan at the ACWMC for that. We’ll be putting together some ferocious fascia animation for the IPFW Mastadons this season and I’m really excited to work with their awesome logo. Lots of ideas have already been drawn up and I’m looking forward to working with IPFW and Nelligan Sports.

We just launched a new Twitter feed for the company to celebrate its first anniversary. Be sure to follow @sportsmation on Twitter to stay up to date with the latest happenings and projects at Sportsmation Productions. In addition, you can also follow my personal feed @scottpaull.

It’s been a great 2010 and I’m looking forward to building on the company’s success to grow and offer more production services in our second year. Stay tuned…

The ACWMC concession crew

What a busy stretch it’s been the past month or so. There’s a lot going on here…

Since the last blog post, Sportsmation Productions has been involved with a bunch of scoreboard animation clients including Texas Tech Athletics, Allen County War Memorial Coliseum and a number of sponsors.

For Texas Tech, I recently completed a package of LED ribbon board animations for their upcoming men’s and women’s basketball seasons at United Spirit Arena. The people at Tech Athletics are great to work with and were gracious enough to communicate Sportsmation’s services to their sponsors (some of whom were looking for more motion and eye-catching advertising during games).

All of the sponsors I’ve dealt with in Lubbock have been great. From animated logo sequences to cotton growing to flying chickens, it should be a fun season at Texas Tech home games this year if you’re looking up at the fascia boards. Hoping to get up there at some point to check it all out in person.

War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, IN has also been a great client to work with. They recently installed LED ribbon boards in their arena and came to me looking for some eye-catching content in the arena and main lobby LED spaces. Looking forward to creating more great stuff for the arena in the coming weeks. I’ll hopefully post some of the work from the project on the site soon.

Finding time to relax hasn’t been there too often, but it has been a really exciting time for the new company which celebrates its one-year anniversary in a couple weeks. Our fun new website is in the works with an estimated launch date sometime around the holidays.

Thanks to all the clients that have spread the word and we’re looking to make year #2 at Sportsmation even better!

I just finished up a group of animations for Texas Tech Athletics. The Red Raiders will be featuring the package on the LED table and arena displays this year at United Spirit Arena for home events.

The designs for their package included an intro animation of the Texas Tech Masked Rider that rides out on a horse before football games. Looking to bring this tradition indoors for basketball and volleyball events, Tech wanted to put the rider on the LED fascia and have him ride around the arena during pregame festivities.

I’ve posted a low-res video showing the different sections of the nearly 10,000 pixel-wide animation in .MOV format if you want to take a look.

Working with good people at Texas Tech has been great thus far. They’re really committed to their game ops and graphic presentation which is great to see. If you’re at Tech home game or watching one on TV, be sure to look for the graphics around the arena and at center court.

Football season is almost here. I’m busy with a big (non-football) animation project at the moment, but dug up some retro ‘Hookem’ wallpaper designs I put together earlier in the summer. All sizes are widescreen except the 1280 x1024 size. The 640 size is for iPhone 4 dimensions and resolution specs. Enjoy.

July has been a busy month with a lot of new things going on. First of all, Sportsmation Productions has signed a contract with Texas Tech Athletics to design some stellar arena and table fascia animations for their upcoming volleyball and basketball seasons. Working with the friendly folks there has been great, and I think we’ve come up with some great ideas to help Tech’s game ops presence and marketing. Look for those to be posted here in a month or so after they’ve been finalized and produced.

In addition to working with Tech, I’ve also been in contact with a variety of sports teams and clients about design projects and getting bids in. The schedule is starting to pick up between my time with that and the Exes, so I’m not sure how many clients I will take on this fall. Of course, as always, client decisions are made on a first-come, first-served basis, no matter the amount of work needed. So if you’re in the market for any animation and/or design for your team, league or property, let me know as soon as possible.

On the personal front, ScottandMon.com is in the process of being updated. I haven’t made any additions since before the wedding, so we have some outdated content. Look for some new exciting and fun additions to our town soon. I’m incorporating some HTML 5 into parts of the site, and of course more jQuery-based content. At this point, updating the 3-D version of the town setting is still up in the air, but it will live somewhere on the site for those we sent out glasses to a few months back.

Also, everyone’s favorite slowpitch softball team is back this fall. That’s right, the Disch-Falkers are headed back out on the diamond. DFers.com will be getting a major face lift this fall as I will be rolling out the new site with a built-in CMS tool for the first time. Lots of new content ideas are in the works, and like ScottandMon.com, I’m trying to stay away from using much flash in favor of HTML 5. The completion date for the site is being moved back a bit due to Sportsmation and Exes projects that are obviously the main focus over the next few weeks. Look for the new DFers.com site to launch in early to mid-September.

Finally, lots of new things are going on with the Exes. Lots of new site design ideas are being kicked around to replace the organization’s current site (that was built who knows how many years ago). I’m in the process of working in some mockups and models for a special side-door creative site project as well that will be launched later this fall.

So… lots of exciting things going on as you can see. Stay tuned.

My last post was… April 1, yikes! It’s been a busy three months. We made it through our big day last month and the week or so with surrounding events while family and friends were in town. We received a lot of great feedback from everyone about our 3D save the date cards, website and two movies, which were made for the occasion (and are now both on ScottandMon.com in the theater section).

We had a great time in the Dominican Republic on our honeymoon. Volleyball, horseback riding, dining, laying out on the beach and lots and lots of surfing. I took 2200+ photos during the 8-day trip, so I’m still going through and editing, tossing or stitching photos. (Yeah, I like to take photos.)

Here are a couple pics from the trip…

Since things have settled down a bit for us, Monica and I are in the process of coming up with new ideas for the next phase of our site, ScottandMon.com. We’ll be expanding the content over the next few weeks and months and updating some out of date things related to the wedding. Stay tuned.

In addition to all the wedding planning, I started working with the Texas Exes, UT’s ex-students association, which is a great organization with 91,000+ active members worldwide. I’m serving as their front-end developer — designing layouts, creative content and site components. We recently launched the first phase of a new UT history site on June 18 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Texas Exes. Look for new magic to pop up via the Exes soon.

ps – Still working on the new demo for ScottPaull.com/Sportsmation.com when I have time, so stay tuned.

Look for a new ScottPaull.com redesign and demo in a few weeks. I’m working on a redesign of my personal site in order to make it more mobile and yes, iPad friendly. Apple seems to have dropped the axe on Flash, as has the expected completion of HTML 5 later this year. It will be interesting to see how it plays out in the coming weeks and months ahead with the company’s release of the iPad.

Currently, my personal site is mostly in Flash, with scrollable content, but due to the alleged popularity that the iPad will bring, I’m doing a redesign. I want to make sure that I can get as many views as possible and not let technology limit that. While I try not to let technology limit what I can do creatively, this switch seems inevitable due to the popularity the iPad is expected to bring. Either way, the iPhone (which yes, I use as well), is already a limiting factor to using Flash on a portfolio type of site. For the work that I do, it doesn’t seem like a separate mobile site would be that beneficial at this time.

So again, bottom line, look for a new ScottPaull.com site and demo soon!

I just finished up a design package for UT Arlington’s ballpark. The graphics included included animated player mug intros, 2D and 3D animations and a four-set cap shuffle game. You can check out some of the designs via a demo sheet on my site.

ScottandMon.com

Thanks to everyone who has checked out my latest site project, ScottandMon.com. Monica and I have been getting a lot of great feedback about the site and glad friends and family are enjoying it thus far. There’s still more to be added soon, so keep an eye out.

The site has two different viewable site versions. Site content can be viewed in standard 2D, or  in 3D with red/cyan 3D glasses which were sent out with our 3D ‘save the date’ cards.

The town also has a script which changes between day and night based on real time. There’s a few hidden clicks here and there as well, so be sure to check out ScottandMon.com today!

ps – Keep checking back for site updates!

One of the sites I designed and do the back end work for has been nominated for the 2010 Texas Social Media Awards. The Backline Show site nomination was announced yesterday via the Austin American-Statesman.

Josh Shepherd hosts a weekly internet podcast , which I do the back end work for on the site and for iTunes. Each week, he interviews indie artists and plays music you’re likely not to hear anywhere else.

You can check out the show at BacklineShow.com or download the show on iTunes.
